Bathroom Accessibility- Why a Wall-Mounted Toilet?

Bathroom Accessibility.png

The wall-mounted toilet offers three practical advantages:

  • Space savings: Wall-mounted toilets are a great choice for smaller bathrooms because the bowl and actuator plate are the only parts in the room. The outer tip of the bowl is up to 12 inches closer to the wall, which can make a huge difference in a small bathroom.

  • Easy cleaning: Because the toilet bowl doesn’t touch the floor, cleaning the area around the fixture is much easier.

  • Adjustable height: When installing a wall-mounted toilet, the remodeler can customize the height for the homeowner. This is especially helpful for people with mobility issues who might need a higher toilet.

The Wet Room, Farmington Hills

Wet rooms are waterproof bathrooms where there are no shower trays to step into or and obstacles can be kept to a minimum. Having everything ‘level-access’ and immediately accessible is the ultimate in hassle-free bathing. Wheelchair users won’t have to worry about getting in and out of a shower or bath. Simply wheel a bathing chair to the desired position, have a wash, get dried and get on with the rest of your day!

Wheelchair Accessible Kitchen

New Accessible Kitchen and Floors in West Bloomfield- Phase 1- Done! We knew it had potential and a few really big challenges. The first is common to all condos: square footage is tight and we had to maximize it. Luis also had to think about the wheelchair access, so our design allows her to operate in the kitchen with efficiency. ✨👏🏻 Love the New flooring too! 💗

More coming on this project as we begin to remodel the master bathroom...

Cerebral Palsy Awareness!

cerebral palsy awareness.jpg

March 25th is Cerebral Palsy Awareness!

Today, we want to bring awareness to CP.

12153_10152891621489922_3332822376192903043_n.jpg

I am trying to do my part to help to educate people about CP, as my 23 year old daughter, Sofía has Cerebral Palsy. As you all know, Sofia is the reason BFA LLC. exists!

Children and adults with Cerebral Palsy deserve more research into the cause and prevention, more research into treatment options, new thinking about the standard of care, more clinicians and scientists who specialize in it. ......

Please look up UCP- Detroit, http://www.ucpdetroit.org if you are interested in getting involved, needs resources or other information.

Why use HARMAR Pinnacle Stair Lifts?

The BFA,LLC. is a certified dealer for HARMAR lifts. The most popular are the Pinnacle stair lifts.

Why use HARMAR Premium  Stair lifts?

  • Commercial grade

  • No maintenance required
  • Hassle-free unit
    • We do not have to repair these lifts due to their premium quality part and electronics.
  • Made in the USA
    • This means that parts and customer service are accessible and fast.
  • An investment that will last a lifetime.

... But, why not use the cheaper brands on the market?

  • Parts are made in other countries, which makes it more difficult to get parts and assistance.
  • Bad quality
    • The materials and electronics are low quality. This causes a lot of malfunctions and problems with the lift.
  • Repairs are needed after 1 year of installation.
  • Overall, this is more of a nightmare than an investment.

Lastly, HARMAR has three different Pinnacle Stair lift units, for three different budgets. All are premium quality and professional installed by a certified technician.

When it comes to accessible home modifications, especially assistive equipment, they have to be reliable. The main reason someone needs these services, is for peace of mind. The way you can have the peace of mind is when the products and the job, are premium quality and proper installation.

BFA LLC. has been working with assistive equipment, like stair lifts, since 2002. We have worked with the cheaper brands and they really are not worth it.

As always, we want to know what you think. Feel free to comment, email us or call the BFA LLC. office to learn more about accessibility solutions.

Are you a Disabled Veteran?

BFA LLC. is proud to be on the Department of Veteran Affairs Contractor List for the State of Michigan. We have worked with disabled Veteran clients, whom have received Housing Grants from the VA. The purpose of the Housing grants are to enhance disabled Veterans quality of life by providing a safe, barrier free home, where they can live as independently as they can.

Through our experience, many of our Veteran clients have no knowledge that they have these grants available to them. And, much to our surprise, we found it difficult to find detailed explanations of their options. Thankfully, we found a document from Julian Gray Associates , where Cindy S. Alvear,  clearly explained the grants available and the specifications to qualify for them.

The VA offers a few different Housing Grants:

Specially Adapted Housing Grant (SAH)

  • Veteran may receive up to $67,555 for accessible home modifications.
  • Veteran is only qualified if they were permanently disabled during service.

Special Home Adaptation Grant

  • Veteran may receive up to $13,511 for any accessible home modifications.
  • Veterans qualify if permanently and totally disabled as a resulf of Military service.

Click here for more information on SAH and SHA grants from the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Home Improvement and Structural Assistance (HISA)

  • Veteran may receive $2,000 to $6,800 for accessible home modifications.
  • Veterans qualify if disabled as a result of service related or non service related conditions.
  • Requires a perscription from VA facility or physician.
  • " A HISA grant is available to veterans who have received a medical determination indicating that improvements and structural alterations are necessary or appropriate for the effective and economical treatment of a disability. The HISA program does not cover major modifications that are generally covered by the SAH grant program. For instance, handrails installed in showers are covered under HISA, while widening a bathroom doorway is not. A veteran may receive both a HISA grant and either a Special Home Adaptation (SHA) grant or a Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant."
