Modern Accessible Bathroom Remodel for a Homeowner Living with a Chronic Illness in Northville, MI

Modern Accessible Bathroom Remodel for a Homeowner Living with a Chronic Illness in Northville, MI

At BFA, LLC – Contractor & Disability Consultant, every remodeling project begins with one question:

How can we help our client live more safely and independently at home?

Our latest project in Northville, Michigan, is a perfect example.

We're transforming an outdated bathroom into a modern, accessible space for a homeowner living with a chronic illness. While every diagnosis is unique, many chronic health conditions can gradually affect balance, strength, endurance, and mobility. A thoughtfully designed bathroom can make daily routines easier, safer, and more comfortable.

Project overview

  1. Location: Northville, Michigan

  2. Client: Homeowner managing a chronic illness who seeks safety, comfort, and low-effort daily use

  3. Lead: BFA, LLC — Contractor & Disability Consultant

  4. Goal: Deliver a modern, attractive bathroom that prioritizes universal access, energy- and time-saving features, and finishes inspired by the client’s chosen tile palette

Design inspiration & finishes

  1. Tile palette: large-format matte porcelain tiles in warm gray with subtle veining for the floor and shower walls to reduce grout lines and create a calm, continuous surface. Accent: honed white subway tile in a stacked layout behind the vanity for a clean modern contrast. A narrow band of textured slate-gray mosaic (glass and stone mix) at eye level in the shower introduces subtle depth and tactile interest without visual clutter.

A Bathroom Designed for Everyday Living

Bathrooms are one of the most frequently used spaces in any home—and unfortunately, one of the most common places where falls occur. Our goal is to create an environment that reduces hazards while maintaining the warmth and style of a beautifully remodeled bathroom.

This Northville project includes carefully selected features that combine accessibility with modern design, proving that homeowners don't have to choose between safety and aesthetics.

Accessibility Can Be Beautiful

One of the biggest misconceptions about accessible remodeling is that it has to look clinical or institutional.

Today's accessible bathrooms can feature elegant tile, frameless glass, contemporary fixtures, beautiful lighting, and clean architectural lines while incorporating design elements that improve safety and usability.

We believe every homeowner deserves a bathroom that is both beautiful and functional.

Planning for Today—and Tomorrow

Many families choose to remodel before mobility becomes a major concern. Planning ahead allows homeowners to remain in the home they love while avoiding expensive emergency modifications later.

Accessibility remodeling is an investment in:

  1. Independence

  2. Safety

  3. Comfort

  4. Home value

  5. Peace of mind

Whether you're living with a chronic illness, recovering from surgery, supporting a loved one, or planning to age in place, a customized bathroom remodel can make a meaningful difference.
